On Wednesday 7 February 2024, it was announced that the Archbishops’ Council, acting as the Central Stipends Authority (CSA) has approved a 7% increase in the National Minimum Stipend (NMS), set to come into effect in April 2024.
Church Times reported that this will see the minimum stipend jump from £26,134 to £28,670.
Our response
“We welcome today’s recommendation for a 7% rise in the National Minimum Stipend.”
“Last year, 22% of Church of England clergy were supported by Clergy Support Trust, and it is good to see the challenges faced by those households acknowledged by this announcement. Too many have been struggling to afford essentials like school uniforms, white goods, and laptops.”
“We will continue to work with the National Churches whose clergy we serve, to develop more sustained approaches to clergy wellbeing and to increase awareness of the Trust’s grants and services in times of need.”
The Revd Ben Cahill-Nicholls
Chief Executive of Clergy Support Trust
