If you like who we are and what we do, there are a range ways that you can help Clergy Support Trust. Donations are critical to our ongoing work, volunteer fundraisers are always welcome, and sharing our messaging on social media is vital in helping us to spread the word.

Recently, we asked our applicants to complete a survey. Surveys help us to get a better idea of both the demographic of the households who come to us for support, and to gather suggestions and feedback on how we can continue to improve our grants and services. Many respondents asked if they could pray for the Trust, and asked for guidance on how to do so.

We're touched that people want to pray for the charity, for our staff and for the clergy and their families who come to us for support. We hope that this page will provide a suitable starting point for your own prayers and reflections.

The charity prayer

Clergy Support Trust has its own charity prayer. We are led in this prayer at special events, such as at our annual Festival Service at St Paul's Cathedral.

Lord, we pray thee that thy grace
may always prevent and follow us;
and make us continually to be given to all good works,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Alternatively, if you'd prefer a longer prayer, we would be very happy for you to use the template below, which is similarly used at special events.

I offer thanks and praise to the glory of God, in fellowship with Clergy Support Trust. I pray for God’s blessing upon its work of relieving those in need and those under pressure, so that the ministry of the Church may continue to bear the fruits of the Gospel of Christ.

I pray for those in ministry and in service of the Church universal, that they may have the resources they need to share the good news of Christ with all. And I pray that, as God inspired men and women of faith, hope and charity to follow Christ and support the work of Clergy Support Trust, so may I be inspired with a generous heart and an enlightened mind in the service of the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

Things to pray for

We recognise that everyone prays in their own special way. If you'd prefer not to use our charity prayer, please do pray in whatever way feels best for you. Below are a few points that come up frequently in our own prayers, and we hope prove helpful for you. Please pray for:

  • Clergy and their families, as they face the struggles that come with life and ministry.
  • The Trust and our staff, as we answer more calls, have more often emotional conversations and process more applications for support than ever before.
  • Church leaders, that they have the confidence to champion the wellbeing of the clergy for whom they care.
  • Our Patron, His Majesty The King, as well as our Honorary Presidents, Honorary Vice Presidents and Trustees, for the strength and conviction to drive our mission.

Joseph's prayer

Holy God, in your Son, our great High Priest, you fashion a people for your own and bind us together as one body, one church.

We thank you for all who respond to your call to serve the Church, praying especially for all bishops, priests, deacons, and ordinands in training. May they be strengthened and empowered to administer the gifts of grace and to proclaim the word of life after the example of Jesus Christ.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Revd Canon Joseph Adewale moved from Nigeria to the UK, with his wife and four children. When utility prices soared, Joseph spiralled into debt. Not knowing where to turn, grants from the Trust helped the family to get back on their feet.
