Clergy are called to support others

Clergy Support Trust exists to support them

2,700 clergy households in every diocese across the UK, Ireland, Diocese in Europe and Diocese of Sodor and Man have received support from the Trust in 2023.

This includes grants to address the cost of living crisis, such as energy bills; helping clergy to take a well-earned break and recharge; meeting health needs. Services like insomnia support; ebook library for training clergy; and much more.

Our research highlights issues like the wellbeing of minority ethnic clergy, and new initiatives like wellbeing workshops and visiting caseworkers help ensure everyone in need can receive support.

You can help by sharing what we do with clergy and their families, donating to support our work or becoming a Steward or Governor (details below).

Join as a Governor

Clergy Support Trust has Trustees (Court of Assistants) who run the charity and are responsible, by Royal Charter, to our Governors who meet at our Annual Assembly (AGM). Most recently Assembly was held at Southwark Cathedral.

Governors are ambassadors, a source of accountability and advocates of the charity. They also provide a helpful sounding board and support the charity's work.

To become a Governor, there is a short application form and a minimum donation of £100. Learn more about Governorship.

Be a Steward of the Festival

Our annual Festival Service, since 1655, is a celebration of the work of clergy and their families; an incredible choral tradition as the world's oldest choral festival; and for many years a significant fundraiser.

Stewards of the Festival organised the festival until 1975 (when it was passed to staff) but this historic title and position has been maintained and celebrated. Many of our current Stewards are also Governors of the charity, and some have been supporting us as Stewards of the Festival for 50 years!

Stewards can process in St Paul's Cathedral, holding ceremonial wands and their names printed in the Order of Service.

Learn more about Stewards, or apply to become a Steward at the next Festival for a minimum donation of £75 per year.
